Reed fronds, seed heads and dried perennials have their own charm. I have now started to clean my beds on a sunny Saturday and cut back the shrubs and grasses. But the clippings were far too beautiful to end up on the compost. I used them to decorate our living room.
I decorated bouquets of dried grass in vases and small bowls. For the wreath I made a twig with a wire into a circle and attached reed fronds, grasses and seed heads from the perennials to the twig with the wire. Then I added other shorter parts of the perennial e.g. the stonecrop and stuck them into the wreath so that you can no longer see the wire. We also used all the pine cones that the winter storms blew down to decorate. We find it quite pretty, but now we look forward to a spring decoration.
